INTERVIEW NO. 3 (EST R.)

Est R. | Texas

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

How did you start off in photography?

Well, it was sort of a combination of things, a gorgeous guy in the German Air Force who I met when I was 17 (He was 27) that would email me pics of his adventures, my roller-coaster emotions at that time in my life, my need to express myself in some way, and my own artsy personality. I got really interested in HIM, and also in photography. But I had loved it before that. He just gave me the boost I needed. It all ended in heartbreak, but I am thankful to him for that.

Tell us a little bit about the city/town/neighborhood you live in.

Very dry, hot when I'm not in class.
Very cold, and wet when I am in class.
Gotta love being in college in a far away state. :)

Describe yourself in five words.

Ordinary, People-Pleaser, Lover, Sunshine, Breezy

Are there any themes that you like to explore through your photography, and if so, what?

I like to explore who I am, what the world around me is, and how I can touch someone's heart who I have never met. I want people to either think or feel something when they see my work.

Are there any photographers you know in real life who've affected you?

Not really. I sort of picked it up on my own.

Have you ever eaten with chopsticks before? If so, how was your experience?

I have a really close friend who used to live in Japan. She has been a great influence in this area, and I am fully capable of eating with chopsticks. Thanks, Rachel. Hee hee

Who is/are your inspiration(s) in photography?

Probably Jules, Priska Febrinia, and Wil Chow. I love their work, and they all have been huge encouragements to me.

Which is your favorite photo that you've taken? Is there a story behind it?

You know, I have several favorite photos. I am usually very dissatisfied with my own work. I am one of the worst self-critics you will ever meet. I see every flaw in everything I do.

Probably one of my favorite shots I have right now is the shot from the Hancock Building. It was the night that my boyfriend asked me to be his girlfriend and gave me a beautiful necklace. I cried. I'm such a sappy romantic. But it was such a beautiful night. After being hurt in love so many times, it just feels amazing to find the right one.

What's one random thing that happened to you today?

I burned myself while making fried chicken... Hot objects seem to gravitate towards my skin. Ouch!

If you had a day to spend with anyone alive, dead, or fictional, who would it be?

Charles Dickens. I believe that he was the only person of his kind, and I just wish I could talk to him. Learn from him, and become a better writer.

What's your current music?

Still stuck on Christmas tunes. I know, I know. Hayley Westenra's new CD is amazing.

What is your favorite camera brand and why?

Canon...Because it rocks my socks. ;)

What would you like to ask our next interviewee?

What do you want your impact on the world to be?

Thanks very much for letting me interview you, Est!

Est has no website up at the moment.
